About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is seeking exceptional educators for an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor position. TMCC EMS Academy is a leading EMS educational institution in the region, focused on producing highly competent EMS providers who embody character, compassion, and competence. The role involves teaching theory, arranging clinical and lab experiences, evaluating students, and coordinating instruction with other faculty. Faculty will also act as liaisons between students and clinical/internship sites, which may require travel.

Requirements

A minimum of an associate degree in Fire, EMS, or other related field from an accredited institution, or a bachelor’s degree in any science, computers, education, or a field comparable as needs of the program dictates.
Current state of NV paramedic certification, or ambulance attendance license, or the ability to obtain by the start of the semester they are hired.
Four (4) years of experience as a full-time paramedic in EMS.
An EMS instructor endorsement on the Nevada EMS certification can be obtained by the start of the semester in which they are hired.
Two (2) years’ experience in teaching in EMS, preferably in an academy setting, or at least ten (10) years of EMS experience in place of teaching.
Be able to locate the region, if necessary.

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
Eight years of experience in a full-time paid paramedic position in emergency services.
Three years of experience teaching in an emergency services academy setting.
NAEMSE I instructor completion.
Experience teaching in an online capacity and familiarity with software programs and computers.
AHA instructor in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
NAEMT instructor in PHTLS or ITLS instructor.

Responsibilities

Teach and develop theory instruction.
Arrange appropriate learning experiences in clinical and practice lab settings.
Grade and evaluate students in theory and clinical/field settings.
Coordinate theory and clinical instruction with other faculty.
Act as liaisons between students and clinical/internship sites.
Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year (August-May) in various modalities (in-person, hybrid, online, live-virtual, high-school sites).
Instruct students in EMS using appropriate course outcomes and assess student performance.
Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, and course information sheets, and create teaching aids.
Support student learning outcomes assessment processes.
Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment.
Apply effective teaching techniques in laboratory/clinical settings using state-of-the-art delivery systems.
Assist with equipment usage and maintenance for the training program.
Ensure safety precautions and guidelines are followed.
Use computer software programs for information management.
Work closely with department peers and administrators.
Attend College events, department and division meetings, and committees.
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies.
Annually define long and short-range professional development goals.
Complete training outlined in TMCC's Faculty Standards of Online Instruction.
Provide professional assistance to staff and students.
Assist the department coordinator and associate dean in mentoring part-time faculty.
Hold 5 office hours per week.
Submit grades by semester deadlines.
Participate in student advisement, recruitment, and retention efforts.
Travel occasionally to community and workforce sites, conferences, and events.
Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner.
Maintain sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.
Comply with Public Safety Department policies and procedures.
Comply with published college and NSHE policies and procedures.
Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of TMCC.
Adhere to published codes of NSHE.
Adhere to the Code of Ethical Standards of the State of Nevada.
Maintain all professional certifications as required.
Be able to become an instructor and teach in AHA, ARC, and NAEMT courses.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean, and Director of Paramedic Program.
