About The Position

The Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking to hire a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. The successful candidate will function as a consultant Clinical Geneticist within the Provincial Medical Genetics Program at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre and will also hold a concurrent appointment as an Investigator in the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI). This role is situated within a healthcare facility. The UBC Department of Medical Genetics is committed to advancing basic and clinical research for the diagnosis and management of genetic diseases. The Provincial Medical Genetics Program offers genetic services throughout British Columbia and has a strong history of excellence in clinical care, education, and research, covering pediatric genetic assessment, dysmorphology, prenatal genetic assessment and counseling, and adult clinical genetics. BCCHRI is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada, fostering a collaborative research community of over 400 Investigators focused on improving the health of children and their families. The selected candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a broad spectrum of basic scientists and clinicians.

Requirements

• Hold an MD-PhD, or an MD with at least two additional years of research training.
• Have specialist certification in Medical Genetics and Genomics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists.
• Be eligible for permanent licensing from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
• Demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching.
• Demonstrated ability in scholarly activity.
• Willingness to participate in the affairs of the Department and the University.

Responsibilities

• Build an innovative translational research program to improve the clinical care of individuals and families with genetic conditions.
• Participate in the teaching activities of the Department.
• Provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners.
• Provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.
• Work collaboratively in diverse groups to advance strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty.
• Contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity.
