About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The emergency department is a fast-paced environment for someone who can shift gears quickly, stay active, and handle the stress of critical situations. The role supports patient care, treatment, procedures, client communication, and nursing care for hospitalized patients.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Previous emergency veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
