About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative, driven Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The role supports emergency and specialty veterinary care in a fast-paced environment where cases and priorities change frequently. The proposed overnight schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. The position requires flexibility with work hours and the ability to work additional hours when necessary.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience is required.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous emergency veterinary experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients on home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
• Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
