About The Position

MedVet is a fast-growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide. The Emergency Veterinary Assistant joins a collaborative clinical team and helps deliver advanced medical care to patients in a fast-paced emergency environment. This role is scheduled Tuesday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and has a hiring range of $17.00–$28.00 per hour based on experience. The position requires prior veterinary experience; previous emergency experience is desired. Employment is dependent on passing a drug screen and background check.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous emergency veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients on home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
• Assist the DVM with patient assessments, treatments, and procedures.
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
