About The Position

MedVet is a fast-growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide, offering advanced medical treatments and innovations. The Emergency Veterinary Assistant joins a collaborative clinical team and supports patient care in a fast-paced emergency department. The role involves helping assess and prioritize incoming patients, supporting veterinarians and the patient care team, providing nursing care and monitoring to hospitalized patients, and assisting with anesthesia, sedation, procedures, and laboratory testing. Proposed hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience is required.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant-rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Previous emergency veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
