About The Position

Hennepin Technical College is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to provide high-quality instruction within the Emergency, Public & Social Services programs, including EMT, Emergency Medical Services, Community Paramedics, and related public safety disciplines. Faculty members are responsible for delivering engaging instruction, supporting student success, and preparing students for careers in emergency response, public safety, healthcare, and community service fields. Programs emphasize hands-on, career-focused education aligned with industry standards, certifications, and workforce needs.

Requirements

  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in pre-hospital or emergency care settings.
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field.
  • The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
  • Current Minnesota certification, registration, or licensure as an EMT, paramedic, physician, physician's assistant, or registered nurse.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching, training, or instructional experience in higher education, technical education, or workforce training.
  • Experience using learning management systems and instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, accreditation expectations, and workforce trends.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum, accreditation standards, and established learning outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver lectures, demonstrations, simulations, labs, scenario-based training, and other instructional activities.
  • Prepare course syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials using current educational and industry best practices.
  • Integrate real-world emergency response, healthcare, public safety, and community service applications into instruction.
  • Evaluate and grade student assignments, exams, practical skills assessments, and projects in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and submit grades according to college deadlines.
  • Utilize instructional technology, simulation equipment, and the college’s learning management system effectively.
  • Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and support to students pursuing careers in emergency and public service professions.
  • Maintain regular communication with students regarding course expectations, progress, attendance, and performance.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, collaborative, and safety-focused learning environment.
  • Encourage professionalism, teamwork, ethical conduct, and community service values consistent with public safety professions.
  • Follow established course outlines, program competencies, certification requirements, and program standards.
  • Incorporate current industry practices, emerging technologies, safety standards, and instructional strategies into coursework.
  • Support student preparation for industry certifications, licensure examinations, and workforce readiness.
  • Assist with curriculum updates, instructional improvements, and program development activities as requested.
  • Participate in maintaining program quality standards aligned with workforce and accreditation expectations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student performance records using institutional systems.
  • Submit required documentation, including syllabi, attendance verification, and grades, within established timelines.
  • Respond to college communications and administrative requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and departmental activities as assigned.
  • Adhere to all college policies, procedures, and academic standards.
  • Maintain compliance with accreditation requirements, Minnesota State policies, and applicable licensing or certification standards.
  • Follow established safety procedures and promote safe practices in classroom, lab, simulation, and field training environments.
  • Complete required training related to safety, compliance, instructional technology, and student support.
  • Communicate effectively with program faculty, coordinators, and department leadership regarding student concerns, curriculum issues, and instructional needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to support student success and workforce alignment.
  • Participate in advisory committees, instructional planning, or program meetings as requested.
  • Support partnerships with public safety agencies, healthcare organizations, and community service organizations where applicable.
