About The Position

This position is for an adjunct instructor, or `per courser,’ who will teach the Physics 407 lecture class on introductory physics for scientists and engineers.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics or equivalent degree
  • Expert knowledge of physics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with large numbers of students in a classroom environment

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering three lectures per week
  • Holding in-person office hours to answer student questions
  • Spending one hour per week in the Physics Help Center
  • Communicating with students concerning requests for extensions, make-up exams, and absences from class
  • Preparing homework problem sets and solutions
  • Preparing recitation problems and solutions
  • Selecting the laboratory exercises that will be done each week and making sure these are timed appropriately with the lectures
  • Preparing in-class exams and solutions
  • Developing a syllabus and class schedule
  • Posting information about different aspects of the course on Canvas to establish effective communication with the students in the class
  • Meeting as needed with the teaching assistants to discuss the labs and lab policies
  • Assigning grading tasks to the teaching assistants
  • Establishing grading rubrics and policies for the teaching assistants to follow
