About The Position
This position is for an adjunct instructor, or `per courser,’ who will teach the Physics 407 lecture class on introductory physics for scientists and engineers.
Requirements
- PhD in physics or equivalent degree
- Expert knowledge of physics
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with large numbers of students in a classroom environment
Responsibilities
- Preparing and delivering three lectures per week
- Holding in-person office hours to answer student questions
- Spending one hour per week in the Physics Help Center
- Communicating with students concerning requests for extensions, make-up exams, and absences from class
- Preparing homework problem sets and solutions
- Preparing recitation problems and solutions
- Selecting the laboratory exercises that will be done each week and making sure these are timed appropriately with the lectures
- Preparing in-class exams and solutions
- Developing a syllabus and class schedule
- Posting information about different aspects of the course on Canvas to establish effective communication with the students in the class
- Meeting as needed with the teaching assistants to discuss the labs and lab policies
- Assigning grading tasks to the teaching assistants
- Establishing grading rubrics and policies for the teaching assistants to follow
