Purpose of Role This course is the first in a three-part series which will apply the conceptual framework of physical therapy management to patients/clients with neuromuscular rehabilitative needs. This course will introduce conceptual models/frameworks and foundational principles and theories of motor control and motor learning. Clinical management of neuromuscular-based movement disorders across the lifespan will be introduced within the context of the elements of physical therapy practice and patient/client management. Anatomy, functional neuroanatomy, physiology and clinical medicine from other course work will be linked to course discussions. Theoretical approaches across examination and intervention will be presented with an emphasis on movement system and task analysis to inform clinical decision making. Course content will include application of adaptive and therapeutic equipment; ethical behaviors, interprofessional collaboration; delegation / supervision, and documentation to neuromuscular disorders across the lifespan. Laboratory sessions will promote development of skill in examination and intervention techniques that will be applied to simulated cases to inform clinical decision making relative to movement disorders across the lifespan. Requirements

  • Current New York State PT License
  • Contemporary experience/expertise in Neuro Physical Therapy
  • An interest in teaching and mentoring Entry-level DPT students.

Responsibilities

  • Providing feedback to student-learners in the lab-based setting as they develop and refine their understanding of adult neuro clinical practice.
  • Interaction with students individually, in small and large groups.
  • Sharing of your expertise in neurologic clinical practice.
  • Guide and assess student psychomotor learning.
