About The Position

CHENEGA PRO FEDERAL SOLUTIONS, LLC is seeking an Emergency Room Physician to provide services within the Emergency Room Department at the Fort Leonard Wood, MO Medical Treatment Facility. The physician will be responsible for providing emergency medical care, responding to medical emergencies, and managing patient care in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

Requirements

Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.
Completion of an accredited emergency medicine residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine OR Board eligible in emergency medicine.
Minimum 2,000 hours of ER experience post residency OR Completion of an accredited family practice or pediatrics with internal medicine residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Board certified in Family Practice or Pediatrics with Internal Medicine.
Minimum 20 hours per week for the past 12 consecutive months in a similar or higher level III emergency care institution after board certification.
Minimum two (2) years’ experience within the last three (3) years post residency.
Possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 US States and/or territories.
Possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Possess and maintain Advanced Traumatic Life Support (ATLS).
Possess and maintain Advanced Life Support (ALS).
Possess and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Possess and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Knowledge of established medical record procedures, regulations, and principles.
Skilled in coding medical data utilizing codes from: Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems [HCPCS], International Classification of Diseases [ICD], and Common Procedural Terminology [CPT].
Experience performing tasks which may include, but are not limited to, consulting with consultants, providing medical advice over the telephone, and completing all required paperwork.
Should have the required education, training, experience and documented current competence in the required specialty position description.

Responsibilities

Collect and record medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient’s condition.
Provide emergency medical care to inpatients (if part of code team response) and outpatients, summon appropriate on-call specialists, and continue medical management until their arrival.
Respond to “Code Blue” medical emergency alerts and provide resuscitation treatment.
Pronounce patients dead if resuscitation efforts are unsuccessful, complete necessary records, and notify next-of-kin if present.
Reassure and treat patients with non-acute conditions based on medical triage priority.
Provide emergency care to patients in the holding area.
Prepare narrative summaries and patient profile changes, documenting history, physical examinations, and preoperative diagnosis.
Maintain documentation of treatment in accordance with established procedures.
Use an electronic medical record system for record-keeping, ordering procedures, medications, and writing doctor’s orders.
Respond to a staff nurse’s request for assistance to the emergency needs of hospitalized patients, carry out procedures, and write orders until the patient’s staff physician arrives.
Dispatch and provide medical control for ambulances in accordance with MTF procedures.
Accompany emergency room technicians on ambulance runs if staffing permits and indicated by the emergency, including initial response for disaster-type situations, remaining on scene until relieved by a staff physician.
Perform emergency room procedures compatible with the medical facility’s operating capacity and equipment.
Respond to mass casualty situations in accordance with hospital procedures.
Attend meetings as required by the MTF, if workload permits.
Prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the availability of drugs listed in the formulary, using specific prescription forms.
Dispense medication to emergency room patients if the MTF pharmacy has closed.
Remain in the emergency room or immediately available throughout the tour of duty, except for emergencies and/or disaster ambulance runs.
Remain on tour of duty until an appropriate replacement is on site.
Maintain medical records in accordance with DHA-AI 5015.01.
Utilize standardized, templated patient encounter sheets as supplements to the SF 558, if required by the MTF.
Verify the content and correctness of all prepared and transcribed reports by affixing signature and stamp.
Document appropriate history, physical examination, required laboratory and x-ray examinations, and preliminary diagnosis prior to healthcare treatment.
Refer patients to civilian practitioners only after notifying MTF staff.
Provide house staff teaching, prepare and deliver lectures, and attend department grand rounds and other scheduled academic activities.
Provide assistance and training to PA students, special forces members, and students on rotations.
Treat patients from other provider panels.
Perform a general physical examination, record findings, and determine medical qualifications.
Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and scope of practice.
Provide limited general medical care, diagnosis, treatment, and prescription as described in HSC Pam 40-7-7.
Identify and report situations and individual cases with public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
Obtain an adequate history, physical assessment, and develop a treatment plan in a timely and appropriate manner for each patient.
Utilize paraprofessionals as appropriate.
Respond to and provide initial management of cardiopulmonary arrests and arrange backup from EMS as appropriate.
Make preliminary interpretation of radiographic films, including CAT scans.
Perform initial interpretation of electrocardiograms.
Perform documentation and patient care in accordance with JC guidelines.
Clearly communicate findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen with other health personnel.
Code all patient encounters utilizing the Electronic Medical Record based on HCPCS, ICD, and CPT, and close or transfer all encounters before leaving the shift.
Follow up on lab and radiology orders, including contacting patients and primary care managers with results, and addressing all abnormal labs and proper documentation.
Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals.
Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with DHA-AI 5015.01 Records Management.
Take part in clinics or programs as required to meet JC standards.
Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities relative to assigned cases or contract services.
Review a percentage of another ER physician’s charts once a quarter or as required by department SOP, citing deficiencies and corrective actions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
