About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at a Level III trauma center. The practice setting includes a 13-bed ED/UC with an average of 20 patients per shift, within a 73-bed facility that sees an average of 40-60 patients per 24 hours. The facility utilizes Tele-stroke and Tele-ICU services and has a UW helicopter on-site. The position is for an independent contractor (1099) role and requires credentialing within 90 days.

Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Wisconsin or Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Wisconsin
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) or National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
