About The Position

Highly responsible administrative work in assisting the director in coordinating the city's emergency management plans relative to (1) emergency logistics, (2) emergency planning. (3) emergency operations and training and (4) emergency communications and information technology. Work includes coordination of processes required in the operation and implementation of the City's emergency management plans. An incumbent in this class may be assigned a variety of functions related to emergency services planning, development, resource identification, inter-agency response management, incident assessment, public education, and development and training of City employees and volunteers in preparation of disaster response and related work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in an emergency preparedness program.
  • Additional emergency preparedness experience may be substituted for the required Bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis at the rate of one (1) year of experience equals thirty (30) semester hours of college credits.
  • Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification.
  • If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
  • Applicants should notify the Department of City Civil Service in writing of any address changes.
  • Applicants who are licensed to drive should have a current license on their person for purposes of identification during all phases of an examination. In lieu of such license, the Department of City Civil Service may require that applicants have some form of picture identification.
  • High School diplomas and GED must be issued by a state Department of Education or an institution recognized by a state Department of Education.
  • College diplomas from foreign countries will be accepted if the applicant submits a statement of educational equivalency from one of the evaluation services accepted by the Department of Civil Service.
  • Applicants will not receive credit for unpaid work unless specified on the job announcement.
  • Partial credit only will be given for related part time employment.
  • Experience credit will be granted for related provisional appointments (internal applicants).
  • Professional administrative experience is defined as experience gained in a position that required a Bachelor's Degree upon entrance.
