Emergency Department Technician (EDT) – Emergency Department (ED) – Roper Hospital
About The Position
The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role involves providing basic patient care and tasks such as care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assisting with mobility, performing lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN. The technician will also complete patient rounding, provide 1:1 patient safety companion services as needed, and act as a liaison between the patient and nurse to report changes and concerns. High-level customer service is expected for all patients, families, community providers, visitors, and employees. Accurate and timely documentation is required as applicable to patient care. Participation in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs is essential. Delegated tasks can be performed once competency has been validated. The role includes collecting data within scope, completing patient screenings, and promoting quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery. The technician must demonstrate the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and resolve conflict while working under considerable stress, and maintain knowledge of policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
- Current certification for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred)

- Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience or second year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)
Responsibilities
