About The Position

Our Post-Graduate APP Program is specifically designed for physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are interested in a life-long career in emergency medicine with training sites in the Spokane, WA through Spokane Emergency Care Physicians (SECP), a subsidiary of WECP. The program's objective is to provide exceptional training and experience for APP professionals to have a successful career in any emergency department setting.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited PA/NP school
  • Certified/licensed in Washington State
  • Able to evaluate and treat both pediatric and adult patients
  • Willing to relocate to Spokane for the duration of the program
  • ACLS and PALS certified for the duration of the program
  • Hard working and self-motivated
  • Submit most current Curriculum Vitae with employment history in mm/yyyy format
  • Submit personal statement explaining why you are applying to the program along with your long-term professional goals
  • Submit three (3) letters of recommendation (at least one from school director or faculty)
  • Submit PA/NP school transcripts

Responsibilities

  • Complete a nine (9) month program duration with over 3000 hours of post graduate training.
  • Engage in over 1500 hours of clinical training.
  • Participate in over 150 hours of didactics, including an introductory bootcamp and monthly activities such as meetings, case presentations, procedure lab, or simulation.
  • Undertake over 250 hours of independent study, including case review, presentation preparation, assigned CME, and readings.
  • Commit approximately 50 hours per week to program activities.
  • Progress through phased training with increasing levels of competency and confidence.
  • Complete ACLS/PALS/ATLS certification.
  • Participate in shadow shifts with APP and physicians.
  • Undergo EPIC and documentation training.
  • Complete 1 month of ED clinical shifts supervised by APP in low acuity zones.
  • Complete 6 months of ED clinical shifts with a mix of supervision by APP and Physicians in high and low acuity zones.
  • Participate in external shadow shifts with specialists including ortho, cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, hospitalists, and anesthesia.
  • Complete 1 month of ED clinical shifts with supervised APP in low acuity zones.
  • Option to internally moonlight in months 8 and 9 with approval.
  • Complete required 150+ CME hours (paid for with CME budget).
  • Complete the Original EM Boot Camp online course before the program start.
  • Utilize EMRAP and UpToDate subscriptions for the duration of the program.
  • Attend regularly scheduled monthly meetings with assigned Faculty Advisor.
  • Work with Advisor to monitor progress, identify strengths/areas of improvement, and develop an individualized plan for continued growth and development.
