About The Position

The Eligibility Specialist assists the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's Division of Family Resources (DFR) with processing applications and documents for public assistance. The role supports residents applying for or receiving programs including TANF, SNAP, and Medicaid, and helps determine eligibility in accordance with state policies and program requirements. The position is located in Hammond, Indiana, and includes an extensive training program and potential for promotion.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Two years of experience in a social service environment, state or local government, pertaining to employment or training programs is desired.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
Basic math skills.
Case management skills.
Ability to work independently as a reliable, dependable self-starter.
Strong customer service background and a professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's or associate degree in Counseling or Social Services.
Previous Case Manager experience.
Previous experience as a Case Manager, Eligibility Specialist, Eligibility Associate, Office Manager, Call Center Customer Service Specialist, or Client Specialist.

Responsibilities

Gather data for relevant assistance programs through in-person or telephone conversations with clients.
Verify that information is complete, accurate, and compliant with state policies.
Obtain release forms and medical records as needed.
Verify income, assets, and other financial or legal documents.
Review regulations and program requirements with clients.
Use an automated program to determine eligibility for state assistance programs.
Enter data into the state database.
Respond to inquiries promptly by phone or email.
