About The Position

LakeVille Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as an Elementary Wellness Room Coordinator. The successful candidate will provide a safe, supportive, structured, and welcoming environment for students who need assistance with emotional regulation, sensory needs, movement, behavior, coping skills, or successfully returning to classroom learning. This role involves providing and supervising scheduled sensory and/or movement breaks for students, including those with IEPs, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), or 504 Plans, ensuring consistent implementation and documentation. The Wellness Room is a supportive and instructional space, not a punishment or alternative classroom, aimed at equipping students with the tools and strategies to regulate and remain engaged in their school day. The coordinator will collaborate with various school staff, including teachers, special education staff, social workers, counselors, behavior support personnel, related-service providers, and administration, to ensure consistent and appropriate student support.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, students, and parents.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and appropriately supervised space for students to participate in scheduled sensory, movement, or regulation breaks.
  • Follow established schedules for students whose sensory or movement breaks are included in an IEP, BIP, 504 Plan, or other individualized support plan.
  • Implement prescribed sensory or regulation strategies as directed by appropriately qualified staff and the student's individual plan.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate sensory, movement, and calming materials for student use.
  • Help students learn to appropriately identify when they need a regulation strategy and, when appropriate, increase independence in selecting and using strategies.
  • Maintain consistency in the duration, frequency, and structure of scheduled breaks according to student plans.
  • Document scheduled visits, participation, strategies used, and other required information.
  • Communicate concerns or noticeable changes in a student's response to sensory or movement supports to the appropriate special education teacher, related-service provider, behavior staff, or administrator.
  • Support students in transitioning to the Wellness Room, through their scheduled break, and successfully back to classroom instruction.
  • Coordinate with classroom staff so scheduled breaks support student regulation while minimizing unnecessary loss of instructional time.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $18.00 - 22.00/hour commensurate with education, skill level, and prior experience.
  • Free early childhood education for 3 and 4-year-olds.
  • Free after-school programming.
