Responsibilities

  • Flexibly support student learning, primarily as an in-building Substitute Teacher.
  • Engage flexibly and adaptively to the needs of students across the school as directed by the Principal.
  • Cover classrooms for parental leave or extended absence.
  • Pull small groups for intervention.
  • Conduct classroom observations.
  • Support school-wide procedures such as lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
  • Step in as an interim teacher if a classroom teacher transitions during the school year.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of individual student learning styles and needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the school team and others across KIPP Nashville.
  • Help develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of students, teachers, and families.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff.
  • Develop positive rapport with students.
  • Create and foster a positive and calm learning environment.
  • Enforce, uphold, and exhibit the school's values, student management policies, and culture.
  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with families, as needed.
  • Be available for open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and other events involving parents.
  • Make oneself available to students, parents, and other staff members.
  • Pursue challenging professional goals each year.
  • Offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues to create a professional working atmosphere conducive to change and improvement.
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year.
