About The Position

The ML Teacher will manage a caseload for students acquiring the English language and provide Direct Services to those students. The ML Teacher will provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure that all staff are complying with Individualized Learning Plans and meeting the needs of multilingual students. The ML Teacher will provide a variety of Direct Services such as: ELD Sheltered, Content Based Instruction, Structured English Instruction, and other TNDOE approved Service Models, depending on school and student needs. They will meet with general education teachers to answer questions, provide strategies and supports, give input for Individualized learning plans, collaborate on lesson plans, and track student progress towards student’s ILP goals. They will also work with General Education teachers to adapt and differentiate weekly lesson plans, assessments and homework to meet individual student goals. The role involves identifying and screening qualifying multilingual students using the Universal WIDA Screener or W-APT, using data to create and monitor Individualized Learning Plans (ILP), ensuring compliance with federal, state and district ML regulations, and following KIPP: Nashville Developed processes for entering and exiting students into services. Additionally, the ML Teacher will administer and implement accommodations for relevant assessments (including, but not limited to WIDA screener and WIDA ACCESS, TNReady, and other content assessments) and create and maintain ILPs for all ML students and former ML students, tracking transitional students (T1-T2) who have already exited to monitor growth or reassess services. The role also includes curriculum development and instruction, planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of individual students, using progress-monitoring tools to analyze student results for the purpose of modifying and adjusting strategies and programming, using data to inform instructional decisions, and providing students with daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and planning for individual learning needs. The ML Teacher will demonstrate strong pedagogy and work collaboratively with their school team and those across KIPP Nashville, helping to develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of students, teachers, and families. They will attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff, develop positive rapport with students, and create and foster a positive and calm learning environment, while enforcing, upholding, and exhibiting school values, student management policies, and culture. Establishing and maintaining strong communication lines with all parents and sharing progress is crucial, as is being available for open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and other events involving parents, and making oneself available to students, parents, and other staff members. The role requires pursuing challenging professional goals each year, being willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues to create a professional working atmosphere conducive to change and improvement, and participating in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year.

Requirements

  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with English as a Second Language Pre-K-12 (490) endorsement OR proof of enrollment in a job-embedded Educator Preparation Program
  • Conferred Bachelor’s degree
  • Pass Criminal Background Check
