About The Position

The Electrician & Facilities Technician performs skilled electrical, mechanical, and facility maintenance work in support of the operations of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems, runway lighting systems, facility equipment, and building systems throughout airport properties. The role also supports general facilities maintenance, snow removal operations, and emergency response activities to help ensure safe and reliable airport operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of construction.
  • Knowledge and use of, or ability to learn, computer software programs.
  • Ability to safely navigate and observe construction sites without disrupting the construction process or creating safety risks.
  • Ability to report conditions and describe situations clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to exhibit independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical instructions.
  • Ability to convey Lincoln Airport Authority direction/desires to contractors and vendors.
  • Considerable knowledge of airport operating hazards and safety precautions.
  • Must speak with clarity, write and read English fluently.
  • Exhibit a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 80 feet.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and extensive and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience is required.
  • A valid State Journeyman Electrician License is required.
  • Lift and/or move up to 70lbs. utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Safely climb in and out of trucks, and up and down stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endure various work environment characteristics to include climatic temperature extremes such as cold, hot, wet, and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts/equipment.
  • Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.
  • The employee must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, criminal history check, physical assessment, drug screening, and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy.
  • The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates.
  • The employee must obtain a CDL license within six (6) months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-voltage systems, airfield lighting control systems, and automated systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems, runway lighting systems, control wiring, conduit, and electronic components for airport facilities, equipment, and systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs airfield electrical systems, including runway and taxiway lighting, signage, regulators, circuits, and associated components.
  • Connects power supply wiring and cables to machinery, equipment, building systems, airfield systems, and associated electrical apparatuses.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning mechanical and electrical equipment and works with operations and maintenance staff to identify and resolve issues.
  • Diagnoses, repairs, and replaces faulty electrical and electronic components, including motors, printed circuit boards, pumps, power units, and associated control equipment.
  • Test equipment and electrical systems for proper operation before returning systems to service.
  • Overhauls, services, and assembles hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, pneumatic, and electrical control systems and components.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on boilers, air handlers, air conditioning systems, water systems, electrical systems, doors, building structures, and related airport facility systems.
  • Performs duties assigned in support of operations at the airport and Industrial Park.
  • Operates various types of mowing, heavy, and construction equipment as needed.
  • Creates and maintains organized project records, maintenance documentation, and related reports.
  • Works well under pressure to meet project schedules and budget guidelines.
  • Hours will vary during snow removal, emergencies, and other operational needs.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.
