About The Position

Hut 8 is seeking an Electrical Engineering intern to contribute to live data center projects alongside its engineers. The intern will gain hands-on experience with data center electrical systems and support engineering designs and studies that may be built. The role includes participating in site visits, tracking field issues through resolution, and observing designs progress through construction, commissioning, and energization. The intern will also take ownership of a defined project and present a final recommendation to the team at the end of the internship. Safety and reliability are priorities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, such as Power or Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering (electrical/MEP), or Computer, Mechatronics, or Nuclear Engineering with a power systems foundation.
  • Expected to graduate in December 2027 or June 2028 with an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Coursework in circuits, power systems, electromagnetics, or power electronics.
  • Demonstrated interest in critical power and data center infrastructure.
  • Comfort with AutoCAD, MATLAB, or Python and ability to learn new engineering software quickly.
  • Personal accountability, integrity, and respect for others, the company, and oneself.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to support team cohesion and successful project execution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines while contributing to inclusive, cooperative teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, readiness to ask questions, and interest in tackling challenging problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar power-system software in a class or lab.
  • Work or internship experience in construction, utilities, or industrial settings, or experience building something hands-on.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about data center electrical systems, including utility interconnects, substations, switchgear, generators, UPS, and power distribution.
  • Support engineers in developing one-line diagrams and conducting short-circuit, arc-flash, and protection coordination studies, with guidance and review from licensed professional engineers.
  • Join site visits, follow field issues from question to resolution, and observe designs progress through construction, commissioning, and energization.
  • Evaluate cost, constructability, and redundancy while prioritizing safety and reliability.
  • Own a defined project from initial question through final recommendation and present it to the team at the end of the internship.
