About The Position

Hut 8 is seeking a curious Mechanical Engineering intern to contribute to live data center infrastructure projects. The intern will work alongside engineers on mechanical systems and designs, including chilled-water plants, air-cooled and direct-liquid-cooling (DLC) systems, piping, and fire protection. With guidance and review from licensed professional engineers, the intern will support engineering calculations, equipment selection, and drawing documentation, and will participate in site visits and follow field issues through resolution, construction, commissioning, and startup. The intern will also own a defined project and present a final recommendation to the team. The position is based in the office at Hut 8’s corporate headquarters in the Brickell area of Miami, Florida.

Requirements

  • Expected to graduate in December 2027 or June 2028 with an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, or HVAC.
  • Interest in critical cooling and data center infrastructure.
  • Comfort using AutoCAD, MATLAB, or Python, and ability to learn new engineering software quickly.
  • Personal accountability, integrity, and respect for others, the company, and oneself.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to support team cohesion and successful project execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using CFD or thermal-hydraulic modeling tools such as AFT Fathom, ANSYS, or similar in a class or lab.
  • Work or internship experience in construction, HVAC, or industrial settings, or hands-on building experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about data center mechanical systems, including chilled-water plants, air-cooled and direct-liquid-cooling systems, piping, and fire protection.
  • Support engineers with load calculations, pipe and pump sizing, equipment selections, and P&ID and drawing markups under the guidance and review of licensed professional engineers.
  • Join site visits and follow field issues from initial question through resolution; observe design progression into construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Ask questions and assess cost, constructability, and redundancy, while prioritizing safety and reliability.
  • Take ownership of a defined project from the initial question through a final recommendation and present it to the team at the end of the internship.
