About The Position

Hut 8 is seeking a curious Mechanical Engineering intern to work alongside engineers on live data center infrastructure projects. The intern will contribute to engineering designs and calculations that may be built, learn about data center mechanical systems, and take ownership of a defined project from initial question through final recommendation. The internship includes exposure to construction, commissioning, and startup, with opportunities to present project work to the team at the end of the internship. The role is based in the office at the company’s corporate headquarters in the Brickell area of Miami, Florida. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, such as Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering (mechanical/MEP), or Energy Systems Engineering with a thermal-fluids foundation.
  • Expected to graduate in December 2027 or June 2028 with an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, or HVAC.
  • Interest in critical cooling and data center infrastructure.
  • Comfort with AutoCAD, MATLAB, or Python, and ability to learn new engineering software quickly.
  • Track record of personal accountability, integrity, and respect for others, the company, and oneself.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to support team cohesion and successful project execution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines while contributing to inclusive and cooperative teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using CFD or thermal-hydraulic modeling tools such as AFT Fathom or ANSYS in a class or lab.
  • Work or internship experience in construction, HVAC, or industrial settings, or hands-on building experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about data center mechanical systems, including chilled-water plants, air-cooled and direct-liquid-cooling systems, piping, and fire protection.
  • Assist engineers with load calculations, pipe and pump sizing, equipment selection, and P&ID and drawing markups, with guidance and review from licensed professional engineers.
  • Participate in site visits and follow field issues through resolution; observe design through construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Consider cost, constructability, and redundancy while prioritizing safety and reliability.
  • Take ownership of a defined project from the initial question to a final recommendation and present it to the team at the end of the internship.
