About The Position

GHG Corporation provides logistical support to the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) for the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). This position requires a Licensed Electrical Engineer to provide coverage for the Program Electrical Engineer until a permanent employee can be onboarded. This is a critical position to the Engineering Support Team, requiring competent, licensed design/discipline professionals. The role involves defining electrical engineering basis of design, developing construction documents, responding to client comments, and working with various teams to support projects. The contract duration is anticipated to be 4-6 months, with a remote work location.

Requirements

  • State Licensure as an Electrical Engineer (any duly licensed Electrical Engineer under a State Licensing Board is acceptable; Colorado is preferred).
  • 8 to 10 years' experience in general (commercial, light industrial) electrical designs (lighting, power distribution, motor sizing/controls, code compliance – design and safety practices).
  • Experience in remote, cold-weather designs.
  • Practice knowledge of Power Generation and Distribution.
  • Practice knowledge of MV/LV design for various occupancy buildings and support facilities.
  • Ability to work with designers, Facilities Management, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Quality Assurance, and Safety and Environmental functions.
  • Ability to provide written responses and documentation.
  • Ability to provide oversight of Coordination and Arc Flash studies.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for Power emphasis in Electrical Engineering licensure.
  • Knowledge of the USAP Building Code.
  • Familiarity with International Building Code.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, 70E, NESC.
  • Experience with Project Charters, Project Execution Plans (PEP), and Mission Needs Statements (MNS).

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical engineering basis of design based on the USAP Building Code and discipline specific codes and standards including NFPA 70, 70E, NESC.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and approved for construction documents, including specifications and material call outs.
  • Provide design details unique to the Antarctic environment, ensuring appropriate energy conservation practices.
  • Respond in writing to client and subcontractor comments on design documents.
  • Work with Facilities Management to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions for Design Engineering Estimating Requests (DEER).
  • Provide discipline input for minor recapitalization projects.
  • Work with Project Managers on the delivery of basis of design and drawing packages.
  • Address requests for information related to AFC drawings being implemented by construction managers.
  • Define special or unique quality assurance requirements for electrical equipment inspection, testing, or commissioning.
  • Assure compliance with applicable safety rules and environmental agreements.
  • Provide oversight of Coordination and Arc Flash studies and work with Utilities staff on the understanding and scope of studies performed.
  • Provide written communication and documentation vetted for use by the subcontractor through Leidos document control procedures.
  • Provide written communication regarding attendance to various corroboration, coordination, and communication meetings.
