About The Position

Wieland is hiring an Electrical Engineer to support and lead electrical maintenance efforts such as installations, repairs, troubleshooting, and programming activities. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of heavy industrial electrical systems, including high-voltage distribution, motors, drives, furnaces, and process control equipment. The Electrical Engineer will act as a technical leader, mentor junior electricians, and ensure all electrical work complies with safety regulations and industry standards. This role is located in Wheeling, IL and will be fully on-site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license required.
  • 3+ years of experience with automated mid-scale metal manufacturing machines (steel, aluminum, or related industry)
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including high-voltage distribution and heavy manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting Siemens PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and large electrical systems (motors, drives, switchgear).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Solid understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Strong safety mindset with the ability to work in physically demanding environments (heat, dust, noise).
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced operations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Background supporting power systems for furnaces, casting, or rolling operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance on plant electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, power distribution, furnaces, rolling mills, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults, minimizing downtime in a high-production environment.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment, motors, drives, and controls.
  • Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and NFPA/NEC codes.
  • Supervise and mentor electricians and apprentices; provide technical training and guidance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on capital projects, upgrades, and system improvements.
  • Maintain accurate logs of inspections, testing, and repair work for compliance and reliability tracking.
  • Recommend and implement reliability improvements to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
