About The Position

The Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department serves as the Design Authority for Duke Energy’s six nuclear sites and executes a fleet portfolio of design solutions addressing risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. The Harris Nuclear Station (HNP) CDE team manages the site’s capital engineering change portfolio. The HNP CDE Electrical Team is hiring an I&C Design Engineer III or Senior I&C Design Engineer. This is the advancing level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees solve increasingly complex engineering problems with limited supervision, apply fundamental concepts and procedures to complex and varied work, and develop advanced skills and greater independence. Depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications, the hiring manager may fill the position at a higher level in the job hierarchy. The position develops the scope and technical basis for engineering design changes and defines installation and testing requirements. Work may involve Instrumentation & Control systems, relaying, digital systems, network infrastructure, cyber security, and process equipment. The role provides technical expertise, conducts engineering studies, prepares technical documentation, and coordinates engineering work. It is based at Harris Nuclear Station in New Hill, North Carolina, with a hybrid arrangement after onboarding: employees work remotely and onsite, live within a reasonable commute of no more than 50 miles one way, and report to the assigned facility as directed, averaging two full workdays per regular workweek. The workweek is Monday through Thursday, with 10-hour days.
