WUNC – News, the public radio station licensed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is hiring an intern for its Youth Reporting Institute. This paid position offers flexible hours, up to 16 per week, at a rate of $18/hour. The role is primarily in-person, with potential for hybrid/remote work. A computer will be provided. The internship is expected to begin in mid-August and conclude by the end of the year. Interns will participate in skills workshops with other WUNC Youth Reporting Interns and are expected to present at a showcase event in early December (likely December 3 or 10, 2026). This internship is open to currently enrolled college students and recent graduates. The intern will be directly involved in covering the significant races of the 2026 mid-term election, including U.S. Senate and key local elections. Responsibilities include producing radio and digital reports of varying lengths, covering campaign events, reporting on election management and voting issues, researching political funding databases, and producing 'voter voices' style stories. The intern will gain experience working with the WUNC News Politics team, comprised of experienced reporters and editors with extensive backgrounds in politics and campaigns.
