About The Position

The ELD Teacher will serve as a collaborative instructional partner within a designated grade-level summer enrichment team. The teacher will support multilingual learners through co-teaching, small-group instruction, language scaffolding, and instructional planning aligned to project-based learning units. The ELD teacher will work to strengthen students’ English language development while promoting active engagement in hands-on, collaborative learning experiences, utilizing the established project-based learning units for one of the following enrichments: Step Up to Kindergarten (Rising Kindergarten), Playful Learning - Bike City (Rising Grade 1), Novel Engineering (Rising Grade 2), Trash to Treasure: STEM Toy Challenge (Rising Grade 3), Heart & Sole of Haverhill (Rising Grade 4), STEM Career Awareness (Rising Grade 5).

Requirements

  • ESL Licensed Teacher by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Required
  • Must work the required hours during the summer school days.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Discovery Club or Access 21 – Preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certified

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a collaborative instructional partner within a designated grade-level summer enrichment team.
  • Support multilingual learners through co-teaching, small-group instruction, language scaffolding, and instructional planning aligned to project-based learning units.
  • Strengthen students’ English language development while promoting active engagement in hands-on, collaborative learning experiences.
  • Participate in pre-program training, including an asynchronous online orientation and an All–Staff Meeting via Google Meet.
  • Participate in in-person Professional Development specific to the unit you will be teaching.
  • Use appropriate practices, including tiered instruction and scaffolds, to accommodate differences in learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness, including those of students with disabilities and Multilingual Learners.
  • Incorporate Social and Emotional practice in daily activities to create learning experiences that guide students to identify their strengths, interests, and needs; ask for support when appropriate; take academic risks; and challenge themselves to learn.
  • Develop students’ interpersonal, group, and communication skills and provide opportunities for students to learn in groups with diverse peers.
  • Clearly communicate and consistently enforce specific standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
  • Supervise up to 20 students in your classroom.
  • Assist with program evaluation by taking and administering the Survey of Academic and Youth Outcomes (SAYO) at the start and end of the program/student enrollment period and by using that and other data collected from the program, school and district to inform planning and instruction.
  • Maintain enrollment and attendance records.
  • Plan for and accompany students on field trips.
  • Work with the Coordinators to plan and implement Family Engagement initiatives related to your unit.
  • Return all leftover supplies to Burnham School on the last day of the program.
  • Responsible for other duties as indicated by directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
