As an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern at Johnson Controls, you will support the creation and maintenance of a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment across project sites. You will gain hands-on exposure to EHS programs while partnering with employees, visitors, and subcontractors to reinforce safety best practices.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a 2‑ or 4‑year undergraduate program related to Environment, Health & Safety or a closely related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive mindset with an interest in workplace safety and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, clients, and subcontractors
  • Apply your understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) to support regulatory compliance
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to manage safety documentation, reports, and training materials
  • Deliver clear and engaging internal safety training and coaching to employees and subcontractors
  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, recognizing that learning and improvement come through experience
  • Manage your time effectively across audits (20%), training (20%), and administrative/documentation tasks (60%)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or exposure related to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and safety awareness initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Conducting safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and subcontractors
  • Compiling, maintaining, and updating safety files and EHS systems on a weekly basis
  • Assisting with risk identification activities and safety training sessions
  • Performing site inspections, safety audits, and supporting incident investigations
  • Promoting a strong safety culture and actively supporting Johnson Controls’ Zero Harm philosophy
