About The Position

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is seeking a full-time Agency Attorney Level III in the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office. The successful candidate will conduct investigations of complex EEO violations with minimal oversight and significant independent judgment. Responsibilities include interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses, gathering documents, preparing written summaries and closing memos, researching EEO law, conducting compliance inspections, performing intake interviews and drafting reports, and conducting EEO training for employees and units. The role also involves assisting in the development of EEO statistics and reports.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
  • Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
  • Two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment, to be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) III.
  • Three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment, to be assigned to AL III.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

Responsibilities

  • Gather relevant documents and prepare written summaries of investigations and closing memos.
  • Research legal issues relating to EEO law.
  • Conduct EEO compliance inspections.
  • Conduct thorough intake interviews and draft detailed and timely intake reports.
  • Conduct EEO training for FDNY employees, EEO counselors, and FDNY units as needed.
  • Assist in the development of EEO statistics and reports.
