About The Position

Reporting to the Manager – Instructional Support, Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), the Educational Developer is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing programs that support learning experiences that promote learner-centred excellence in teaching. The success candidate will engage with faculty/instructors, Teaching Assistants and other educational support professionals to achieve the TLC mandate. This also involves on-campus and remote work.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable of learning theory and evidence-information teaching practices, including use of technology to enhance learning
  • Demonstrated competence in working collaboratively with university personnel and students
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams
  • Evidence of innovation and creativity, as well as excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and learner support
  • Strong knowledge of learning outcomes at both the course and program levels
  • Ability to supports equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization in the learning environment and acknowledges the diverse ideas and the interests of all stakeholders in decision making
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching practices
  • Proficiency with contemporary educational tools and applications that support active and collaborative student engagement
  • Experience teaching in at the University level in both the in-person and online environments
  • Three to five years experience working with learning management systems at the university-level

  • Doctorate in a related field is recommended

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support instructional development and programming for faculty, instructors, Teaching Assistants, and other educational support professionals through diverse educational delivery models and technological tools
  • Offer individual consultation to faculty/instructors regarding the use of andragogy-informed educational practices
  • Support faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants in the effective use of the Learning Management System
  • Develop and facilitate teaching-focused orientations for new, sessional, and contract instructors and teaching assistants as required
  • Support the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs), Experiential and Work Integrated Learning
  • Contribute to the advancement of Communities of Practice (CoP), eLearning and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
  • Contribute to the University’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation by supporting the incorporation of Indigenous content and perspectives into course design/delivery
  • Support the constructive alignment between learning outcomes, assessments, and teaching strategies by providing consultation and workshops for faculty/instructors and academic leaders
