About The Position

Designs, maintains, and administers lab educational material for lab staff, medical laboratory scientist students and allied health professionals. Manages staff training and competencies in a manner that meets regulatory requirements. Assist in the collection and analysis of data in support of the quality management plan and process improvement initiatives, both within the department and in collaboration with other departments.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
Florida Technologist license in Microbiology, Immunohematology, Hematology, Chemistry, Serology.
Must have passed one of the following National Certification Exams MT(ASCP) MT(AMT) MT(AAB) CLS(NCA)MT upon hire.
Over 5 years technologist experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory.
Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
Performs tasks requiring judgment with minimal supervision.
Investigates and solve complex problems.
Prioritize tasks and organize work flow.
Requires excellent written, verbal, and computer skills.
Requires excellent decision making skills.
Must be detail oriented.
Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.

Nice To Haves

Associate's degree in Medical Technology with 10 years of clinical lab experience (in lieu of Bachelor's degree).
Supervisors License from State of Florida in all 5 areas.
More than five years experience in a clinical or pathology laboratory environment and experienced in training students.

Responsibilities

Presents training programs independently; evaluates the effectiveness of training for new employees, students, and allied health professionals.
Provides both intra- and inter-departmental education regarding lab processes and procedures.
Prepares, maintains, documents, and reports training and competencies to the appropriate departmental manager.
Develops and provides learning materials for MLS students (Safety, Epic/LIS, Lab Management).
Prepares and assigns mandatory regulatory requirements (fire drills, safety training, fit testing, color vision screening).
Oversees compliance requirements for all staff members (e.g., Licenses, Certifications, Degrees, Work History).
Assists in tracking quality metrics against benchmarks (e.g., Blood culture contamination rate, Clerical errors, Turnaround time).
Supports regulatory efforts (e.g., CAP Inspection preparation).
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory training.
Adheres to dress code, core values, policies & procedures, time & attendance guidelines and confidentiality agreement.
May occasionally write reports to the organization and/or attend hospital committee meetings as a representative of the laboratory.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor within job scope.
