About The Position

The Education Abroad Advisor I is responsible for supporting students, staff, and faculty in navigating transfer credit programs (provider, exchange, etc.). This role involves collaborating with office leadership to offer a wide array of global education opportunities, fostering teamwork and respect. The position requires clear and effective communication, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of clients. A comprehensive understanding of international, federal, agency, and university regulations, as well as expertise in program, study abroad advising, and cultural insights from around the world, is necessary. The role contributes to the mission of supporting high-impact global education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individualized advising for students on various issues impacting global education opportunities, such as personal, financial aid, academic, health insurance and health care, travel, and cultural needs of students.
  • Assists students throughout the decision-making and application process, addressing barriers to participation and facilitating successful enrollment.
  • Supports advising and recruitment campaigns to maximize student engagement and conversion of applicants to committed participants.
  • Addresses issues that arise during the application process and coordinates with internal and external partners to support and connect students with campus resources as needed.
  • Facilitates various aspects of transfer credit programs.
  • Maintains program and student records, databases, and applications.
  • Completes administrative tasks that may include reports, correspondence, travel logistics, and other administrative processes.
  • Supports student orientation, pre-departure preparation, and returnee programming.
  • Facilitates program development and maintenance with partners on and off campus, domestic and international.
  • Represents the office at various events or activities on and off campus, both during and outside regular business hours.
  • Participates in outreach activities designed to increase awareness of education abroad opportunities among students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with campus and external stakeholders to plan and implement outreach events and other student engagement programming.
  • Supports initiatives related to student participation growth.
  • Serves on committees, workgroups, and special projects.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional office efforts.
  • Serves as a Passport Acceptance Agent.
  • May serve as point person for a key campus partner (e.g. Scholarships & Financial Aid, Veterans Resources, Disability Resources, etc.).
