The Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) operates the automated and fixed station keeping system of the MODU while on location and acts as Officer in Charge of the Navigational Watch (OICNW) while underway. The role involves operating the dynamic positioning (DP) system, monitoring control room alarms, and maintaining the vessel in a stable condition. The DPO also assists with DP system setup, data recording, and advises senior personnel of potential issues. Additionally, the DPO supports preventive and corrective maintenance on DP equipment, understands basic drill floor operations, and ensures effective communication with various departments. The position requires maintaining operational awareness, supporting DP operations planning, and managing the 500-meter zone. The DPO also stands navigational watch, reviews DP FMEA and Proving Trials, and possesses knowledge of drift off calculations and data logger operations. Maintaining system-specific knowledge of the DP System and Vessel Management System is crucial, as is assisting with rig move plans and voyage reporting. The DPO performs emergency duties as outlined in various response plans and manuals.
