About The Position

The Positioning Department Manager is responsible for all sales and operations activities of the Positioning department. This role reports to the District Manager and is tasked with meeting revenue goals while ensuring a high level of service and technical support. The manager will oversee department operations, including employee supervision, communication of objectives, and branch assistance. Key responsibilities include coordinating demonstrations, installations, and support for survey and machine control systems, ensuring effective customer interaction throughout the sales and support process, and building customer relationships through visits and promotional activities. The role also involves preparing quotes, managing invoicing and inventory, organizing user group meetings and trade show participation, and collaborating with corporate staff on fiscal goals and sales targets. Additionally, the manager will monitor staff knowledge and skill levels, arrange training, and ensure quality customer service. Travel within the company territory, including overnight and occasional out-of-state travel, is required. The position also includes performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Management/Supervisory experience required.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering, GIS and survey software.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability required.
  • Sales and/or customer service experience helpful.
  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree desired.
  • Experience in the Positioning industry, including GPS, machine control, survey instruments and related positioning equipment highly desirable.
  • Construction layout experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the operation of the Positioning department, including supervision of employees, communication of department objectives and goals, and assisting branch personnel.
  • Ensures that demonstrations, installations, phone and field support for survey and machine control systems, as well as service and support activity is efficiently coordinated.
  • Ensures that Sales and support staff executes customer interaction throughout the entire process from demonstration and training to post-sale product support.
  • Establishes relationships and rapport with customers by making office and jobsite visits; participates in marketing and other promotional activities.
  • Prepares quotes and proposals.
  • Coordinates and controls invoicing and inventory.
  • Coordinates user group meetings and road shows as well as participation in trade shows.
  • Works with Corporate staff in the development of department fiscal goals and sales targets. Monitors department progress against established goals and adjusts operations and procedures as needed to meet goals.
  • Reviews and monitors the knowledge and skill level of all department staff to identify development and training needs. Works with corporate staff to arrange employee participation in training and development programs.
  • Monitors activity within the department to observe the quality of customer service being provided by employees and takes appropriate action.
  • Travels within company territory, requiring a combination of day and overnight travel. Occasional out-of-state travel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
