About The Position

This is a year-round, CSEA Union position responsible for the courteous serving and safe preparation of food and beverages in a beverage service and grab-and-go dining location. The role involves following all food sanitation procedures, assembling orders, using various equipment, restocking supplies, assisting with inventory, inspecting product quality, maintaining brand standards, preparing food, and entering customer purchases into the POS system. The position also involves processing transactions, handling different payment methods, answering customer questions, cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment, removing trash, and potentially securing facilities at the end of service. Support for student customers in a campus setting is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Computing skills to make cash change, take inventory, create # of pieces of a portion by performing adding, subtracting, multiplication and division
  • Ability to read on a level to comprehend product labels, recipes and safety instructions
  • Ability to interact with customers, coworkers and vendors in a diplomatic manner
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to perform routine tasks that are directed to the workstation
  • Lift 20 lb. routinely
  • Stand for entire shift
  • Stoop, Bend, push, pull throughout the shift
  • Lift 30 lb. occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for courteous serving and safe preparation of food and beverages in a beverage service and grab-and-go dining location.
  • Follows all food sanitation procedures to ensure that food and beverages are safe for customers to consume.
  • Assembles orders according to customer requests.
  • Uses a variety of equipment including coffee and espresso machines, countertop ovens, warmers and blenders.
  • Restocks all products, condiments and paper supplies to ensure availability for customers.
  • Assist with counting inventory and recording product on hand.
  • Inspects holding items for presentation and quality and removes if found past the prime shelf life or expiration.
  • Maintain brand standards.
  • Prepare basic food and present product to customers in a wholesome and appealing way.
  • Support student customers in a campus setting.
  • Take proper food and equipment temperatures.
  • Enters customer purchases into the point of sales (POS) system.
  • Processes the transaction with the proper tender – cash, meal plan, debit account or credit card.
  • Enters all transactions according to meal plan, discount and tax policies.
  • Reviews all credit cards and meal cards to verify the customer.
  • Prepare food for mobile orders.
  • Make proper change, if necessary.
  • Answers customer questions about meal plan and purchasing policies.
  • Notifies customers of balances when they inquire or when the balance appears low.
  • Notifies the manager or supervisor on duty of any irregularities with customers and or sales.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work surfaces and customer dining and service areas, as well as dishware, utensils, floors, equipment including breakdown and reassembly periodically.
  • Uses commercial strength chemicals to clean, sanitize and polish.
  • Removes trash.
  • Takes ownership for the workstation utilizing student employee support.
  • May secure facilities at the end of service.
  • Any duties as assigned, based on business needs.
