About The Position

Coastline Academy is hiring a Driving Instructor to teach practical driving skills and road rules to students, primarily teenagers learning to drive and adults preparing for road tests. Instructors teach from the passenger seat of a company-provided vehicle equipped with a second instructor brake. Lessons are recorded by dashcams that capture video and audio inside and outside the vehicle.

The role includes 60 hours of paid training: 40 hours of self-paced virtual learning and 20 hours of hands-on driving and practical mentorship. The hands-on training includes shadowing five two-hour student lessons and completing two five-hour coaching sessions with a Certified Trainer. Instructors do not teach alone until they are ready.

The schedule follows student demand, which is concentrated in afternoons and weekends. A typical day consists of three two-hour lessons.

Requirements

• Genuine passion for helping people learn.
• Patience and the ability to stay calm and steady while someone learns something difficult.
• Strong safety mindset and sound judgment under pressure.
• Clear, direct communication and coaching ability.
• Ability to stay focused and present for hours at a time.
• Valid driver’s license in the state where the instructor wants to work.
• At least five years of licensed driving experience.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and reference check.

Responsibilities

• Teach practical driving skills, from parking-lot maneuvers to freeway merges.
• Coach students on the rules of the road.
• Build students’ confidence as well as their driving competence.
• Take control of the vehicle when a situation calls for it.
• Document and report each student’s progress.
• Communicate promptly and closely with the supervisor and support team.
• Maintain professionalism in interactions with students and teammates.
• Attend team meetings, updates, and ongoing development.
