About The Position

Virginia Transportation is hiring an experienced Driver Manager to oversee dedicated Auto Haulers across its freight network and support customer service. The role focuses on optimizing company resources by building and maintaining strong relationships with drivers, managing their performance, and providing support to promote operational efficiency. The position is 100% onsite in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and reports to the Operations Manager. It has supervisory responsibilities for Auto Haulers and is classified as exempt under the FLSA. Work may require more than 40 hours per week.

Requirements

Experience in logistics and dispatch, preferably in auto hauling distribution.
Knowledge of transportation enterprise software applications.
Working knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance.
Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations, and safety.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to maintain accuracy and completeness when preparing and entering information.
Strong organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and accuracy.
Ability to provide positive reinforcement and maintain a positive attitude.
Ability to provide timely follow-up to drivers and management.
Ability to work in a high-stress environment and remain calm under pressure.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with the dispatch team and Auto Haulers.
Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to motivate others.
Ability to perform essential duties under time constraints and amid interruptions and stressed dispatchers and drivers.
Ability to meet the position's physical demands, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and communicating by telephone and in person.

Nice To Haves

Associate or technical degree in logistics, transportation, business, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading, directing, communicating change, and developing a team strongly desired.
Knowledge of TMW and PeopleNet.

Responsibilities

Provide daily supervision of assigned drivers and monitors, ensuring duties are performed properly and consistently.
Apply company guidelines, policies, and procedures in varied situations.
Assess service levels and recommend operational improvements to regional management and Network Logistics.
Monitor and manage Auto Hauler performance indicators and factors affecting operational effectiveness.
Manage productivity, service, quality, training, maintenance, and safety targets for each Auto Hauler.
Promote and monitor safety, taking proactive steps to build a positive safety culture.
Lead continuous improvement efforts, including selection and implementation of dispatch processes, systems, and personnel.
Monitor daily truck revenue goals and explain variances from company standards.
Manage driver attendance to ensure drivers and trucks are utilized for full days and weeks.
Monitor loads dispatched to drivers and work with Network Logistics to maximize driver earnings and company revenue.
Build positive relationships with drivers and promote a high-quality driver experience.
Partner with logistics to improve load factors, reduce empty miles, conserve fuel, and reduce idle time using available technology.
Manage Auto Hauler performance, provide feedback and motivation, and interpret and enforce company policies, including progressive discipline.
Schedule and manage time and attendance; address driver complaints and monitor satisfaction.
Monitor Auto Hauler production and respond to questions about pay and incentive programs.
Perform other supervisory duties as required.
