About The Position

As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure that drivers are prepared to operate their vehicles safely. This position allows you to use your judgment, communication skills, and attention to detail to guide applicants through testing and licensing. You will play an important role in preventing fraud and supporting secure services. Choose a career that directly impacts public safety. This position supports the safe licensing of drivers by conducting examinations and reviewing identity documents. It helps protect against fraud while assisting customers through the licensing process.

Requirements

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
• An active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
• No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
• Must meet the PA residency requirement.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

• All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

Responsibilities

• Administer road, skills and knowledge examinations for commercial, and non-commercial applicants
• Perform telebinocular and color perception tests to assess visual capability
• Examine documents and use databases to confirm authenticity and prevent fraud
• Issue licenses and identification cards and enter results into required systems
• Explain procedures and provide information about renewals, transfers and license options
• Follow REAL ID rules, fee waiver guidelines, and customer service standards
