Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • An active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • Must obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment (for employees hired after February 28, 2022).
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports will be required for a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Exams: Administer vision, knowledge, and road tests to evaluate driver qualifications
  • Evaluate Vehicles: Check vehicle conditions such as lights, wipers, and inspection status
  • Verify Identity: Review applications and identity documents to detect irregularities and fraud
  • Customer Assistance: Provide information on licensing, renewals, transfers, and card products
  • Process Records: Enter test results, issue products, and follow service policies and guidelines
  • Maintain Standards: Follow safety procedures, REAL ID rules, and customer service requirements
