Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • Active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • Active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with P and N endorsements.
  • Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports.
  • Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Check applicant driving abilities and inspect vehicles for required safety features
  • Administer vision tests using approved tools and methods
  • Conduct written examinations to confirm understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs
  • Examine personal records and use systems to verify identity and detect fraud
  • Process applications and provide guidance on renewals, transfers, motorcycle licenses, and CDL requirements
  • Follow REAL ID procedures, customer service policies, fee waiver rules, and Title VI standards
