Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • Active Pennsylvania Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • Possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with P and N endorsements.
  • Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform driving, vision, and knowledge exams for commercial and noncommercial applicants
  • Review identification documents and check systems to confirm authenticity and detect fraud
  • Inspect vehicle safety features and determine which tests are appropriate
  • Process results, issue license products, and give information on renewals and transfers
  • Explain procedures, test results, and service options while following customer service rules
  • Follow REAL ID rules, fee waiver guidelines, Title VI requirements, and safety procedures
