About The Position

LifeGift is seeking a Donation Clinical Specialist in Amarillo, Texas, to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. This role involves managing activities related to the recovery and utilization of organs for transplantation, including responding to referrals, evaluating potential donors, medical management of donors, organ allocation, and assisting in organ recovery and preservation. The specialist will work with hospital staff and families to facilitate donation opportunities while adhering to LifeGift, OPTN, and CMS policies. This position requires critical thinking, knowledge of donor management protocols, and coordination of all aspects of organ donor cases and recovery processes. The role also involves communication with various stakeholders regarding post-organ recovery procedures and ensuring accurate documentation.

Requirements

Nurse (LPN, LVN, RN), Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist (RT), International Medical Graduate (IMG), or clinically equivalent experience in an OPO.
Must obtain BLS within six months of employment.
Must maintain certification through duration of employment.
Requires frequent travel and ability to commute to different hospital partners within our service area.
Availability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to attain Hospital Badge and EMR Access from all of the LifeGift Hospital Partners.

Nice To Haves

ADN and/or BSN
Minimum of two years’ experience in a critical care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Responds to, evaluates, and screens potential donors according to established criteria.
Documents and maintains medical information in the LifeGift medical record during evaluation of potential and active donors.
Assesses potential donor families and collaborates with hospital staff and Family Care Specialists to facilitate conversations about donation.
Adheres to all current policies of LifeGift, Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Maintains confidentiality of potential donor information.
Obtains and maintains access to and proficiency in various medical records and databases.
Coordinates and drives forward all aspects of organ donor cases efficiently and effectively to maximize donation opportunities.
Collaborates with LifeGift and hospital resources to implement effective donor management and support organ function.
Demonstrates critical thinking and basic knowledge of donor management.
Coordinates all aspects of organ recovery, including team communication, OR scheduling, and procedure review.
Communicates and collaborates with LifeGift staff, hospital staff, medical examiner/justice of the peace, tissue recovery, and funeral homes regarding post-organ recovery processes.
Ensures all post-organ recovery documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner prior to chart closure.
