About The Position

The Comforted Kitty is seeking reliable, responsible pet lovers to provide in-home dog or cat sitting visits and dog walking while clients are away in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk, Virginia metro area. This is a flexible, part-time independent contractor role. Sitters volunteer for available jobs, set their own availability and service area, and are matched with clients. The work involves caring for pets in clients’ homes and helping pet parents travel with peace of mind while building trust with repeat clients.

Services include dog walks lasting 30–90 minutes, drop-in visits lasting 30, 45, or 60 minutes, extended daytime visits lasting 2–8 hours, overnight stays lasting 10–12 hours, and live-in 24-hour care. Most visits take place while clients are traveling, so weekend, holiday, morning, afternoon, and evening availability is especially valuable.

Requirements

• Experience caring for dogs or cats, especially in a pet-sitting capacity.
• Ability to confidently handle dogs from small to large.
• Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Comfort working independently in clients’ homes.
• A smartphone with reliable internet access and a camera.

Nice To Haves

• Medication experience, including oral medications, injections, or fluids.
• Availability on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Feed pets and refresh their water.
• Clean up pet waste.
• Provide playtime, affection, or companionship according to each pet’s personality.
• Send visit updates and photos through the company app.
• Follow each client’s detailed care instructions.
• Bring in mail or packages when requested.
• Adjust lights or blinds and handle trash or recycling when requested.
• Administer medication when it is within the sitter’s experience and comfort level.
• Provide dog walking, drop-in visits, extended daytime visits, overnight stays, or live-in 24-hour care as arranged.
