About The Position

The Dispatcher role is responsible for managing communications within the Atrium Health Mobile Medicine - MedCenter Air Communication Center. This full-time position involves operating under a rotating track schedule with 12-hour shifts from 7pm to 7am. The dispatcher will adhere to hospital and departmental policies, document service requests and events, and manage incoming calls via radio and phone. A key aspect of the role is prioritizing emergency calls, transmitting accurate information, and monitoring equipment and alarm systems to ensure prompt and appropriate response from Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Department, or other agencies. The position requires the ability to function effectively in high-stress situations and make rapid decisions to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to speak in a clear concise manner.
  • Ability to function well in high stress situations with limited assistance.
  • Ability to make rapid, appropriate decisions that assures the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 Year Dispatch Center experience preferred.
  • APCO Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment.
  • Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.
  • Dispatches Security personnel to scenes as requested by customers.
  • Documents requests for service and events in the Security Communications database.
  • Confirms response to the scene and appropriate action taken.
  • Receives calls via Radio Channels or by Phone and follows all associated protocols and checklists.
  • Transmits accurate information to personnel as needed.
  • Prioritizes emergency calls appropriately.
  • Documents the emergency in the Security Communications database.
  • Monitors equipment panel abnormalities and ensures prompt response to incidents.
  • Understands the purpose and functions of monitor panels.
  • Ensures systems are returned to normal working order.
  • Monitors multiple alarm systems and dispatches appropriate agencies.
