About The Position

The Director will implement Howden Re’s business strategies, working with their senior management team, in order to grow shareholder value and develop their Team and will allocate budget and other resources in line with their business plans and strategic targets. They will develop new broking business and deliver a positive client experience by driving consistent, focused and disciplined broking solutions.

Requirements

  • Requires a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Economics, Business, Commerce or a related field plus 1 year of experience as a Director, Reinsurance Broker, Analyst, or related.
  • Must possess 1 year of experience with each of the following: negotiating rates and terms of insurance; conducting risk assessments and analyzing clients’ book of business; developing and analyzing capital strategy and reinsurance solutions for insurance companies; conducting research on price, structure, and market risk solutions for clients; preparing bordereau that reports on insurance policy; generating new business through innovative solutions and consultations of current reinsurance/capital structures, detailed market transaction trackers, loss dev analysis, and in depth client portfolio analysis resulting in suggested reinsurance structure changes or class of business strategy changes; and offering post renewal market updates and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Executes Howden Re strategies within their Team in order to drive business growth, maximize shareholder value and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Provides input to Team Business Plans.
  • Contributes (when required) to the development of effective operational systems and processes.
  • Communicates Operational Entity/Group strategies as required.
  • Is a senior (SME) referral point for the Team, reviewing documentation, providing technical input to advise/coach others and to ensure that actions/decisions taken are appropriate.
  • Negotiates with markets to provide the best balance of quality, service and price.
  • Maintains any ongoing delegated authority contracts appropriate and cost effective.
  • Assists with the creation of comprehensive client and broking documents, where appropriate, or ensures these activities are appropriately delegated to specialists within their Team.
  • Works with their Managing Director/Head of Team to identify and execute new business opportunities, acquisitions and disposals as appropriate.
  • Implements policies and procedures to facilitate management control and to ensure that all internal operations achieve their business objectives.
  • Builds and maintains close links with peers, key internal and external stakeholders, working with the business and other functions to share information, promote the adoption of best practices, identify risks and opportunities and deliver business growth.
  • Remains aware of external, industry and regulatory developments etc., utilizing this information to develop appropriate practices that contribute to the identification of opportunities and business growth within their Team.
  • Manages their direct reports to ensure the required standards of performance are met and guides individuals to further enhance and develop their skills.
  • Remains aware of external, industry, legal and regulatory developments etc. to ensure practice and outputs are of a sufficiently high standard.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, fiscal and regulatory obligations in form of policies and procedures.
