About The Position

Mistplay is seeking a leader to own its fraud strategy, roadmap, and metrics for its mobile-gaming loyalty platform and LoyaltyPlay offerwalls. The role will develop and improve fraud detection, prevention, and mitigation, including AI-assisted agents, models, and tools that help a small team address a broad and changing threat surface. Threats include device farms, emulators, multi-accounting, referral abuse, account takeover, spoofed playtime and purchases, automated offerwall completions, and low-quality advertiser traffic. The Director will work closely with the Fraud Analytics Manager, an Engineering Manager, and Product to define and deliver the fraud roadmap. This is initially a senior individual-contributor role, with the possibility of taking on direct reports as the function grows. The position is hands-on, involving data analysis, investigations, detection prototyping, enforcement policy, and incident response. The role is based in Canada under a hybrid model requiring two days per week in the Toronto or Montreal office.

Requirements

  • At least 10–12 years of experience in fraud, risk, trust and safety, or anti-abuse, largely at a consumer platform, mobile ad network, MMP, or rewards business.
  • Personal experience handling several of the described fraud threats and the ability to discuss what worked and what did not in detail.
  • Strong SQL skills and sufficient Python skills to prototype and analyze.
  • A track record designing detection logic that ran in production, even if another person deployed it.
  • Strong analytical and critical-reasoning skills, including the ability to size losses, compare them with control costs, and make defensible decisions.
  • Experience owning a fraud or risk strategy and roadmap and presenting it to senior leadership or a board.
  • Experience managing fraud or security incidents end to end; ideally, experience setting up on-call and incident-response processes and demonstrating that post-incident work prevented recurrence.
  • Ability to deliver through teams the role does not manage and collaborate effectively with analytics and engineering leaders.
  • Practical use of LLMs and coding agents, prior application of AI to detection or investigations, and sound judgment about when human decisions are needed.
  • Working familiarity with Play Integrity, App Attest or DeviceCheck, MMP fraud suites, and the device-intelligence vendor landscape.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including reliable follow-through.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in rewarded gaming, offerwalls, or incentivized user acquisition.
  • Experience with Databricks or Spark.
  • Experience with graph or link analysis.
  • Mobile client security knowledge.
  • Prior people-management experience or a desire to grow into people management.

Responsibilities

  • Own the fraud strategy and roadmap, assess exposure and its costs, set priorities, coordinate commitments across Fraud Analytics, Engineering, and Product, and review new features, offers, and reward mechanics for abuse risks before launch.
  • Define and own fraud metrics for losses, prevalence, and false positives; ensure the figures are trusted; and report on fraud posture, strategy, and progress to the Senior Leadership Team and board.
  • Lead detection and enforcement work with Fraud Analytics and cross-functional teams, investigate live attack patterns, prototype detection rules and models, and provide specifications for engineering productionization.
  • Own enforcement policies, including warnings, holds, account and device bans, and appeals, while minimizing harm to legitimate players.
  • Coordinate with commercial and marketing teams on fraud-related matters involving clients and marketing channels.
  • Establish fraud on-call rotations and incident-response playbooks, severity levels, escalation paths, and business communications; lead incident containment and coordination; and own post-incident reviews and follow-up mitigations.
  • Set traffic-quality standards for LoyaltyPlay and third-party offerwall publishers, determine how publisher-level fraud is scored and addressed, and own the install-quality narrative and advertiser disputes.
  • Integrate LLMs and coding agents into daily fraud work, support their adoption by the analytics team, and monitor AI-driven abuse.
  • Choose and manage fraud platforms and vendors, including use of Play Integrity, App Attest, MMP fraud tooling, device-intelligence vendors, and bot-detection vendors.
  • Influence and clarify fraud-related responsibilities across Commercial, Marketing, Engineering, Product, User Acquisition, Supply, Support, Finance, and Legal.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Team lunches, game nights, and company-wide events.
  • Opportunity to build and lead a team as the function expands.
