Director of Sales – Global Special Situations

Artisan Partners•Chicago, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

Artisan Partners’ International Value Group is seeking an experienced sales professional to expand the group’s reach into the fixed income, credit and alternatives investor universe, initially focusing on building Global Special Situations (GSS) into a meaningful part of the business. The role works directly with the GSS investment team as the strategy develops. GSS is a flexible, catalyst-driven strategy investing globally across credit, equity and hybrid securities in public and private markets. It focuses on high-quality businesses where corporate change, capital structure complexity or a limited natural buyer base creates mispricing, seeking equity-like upside with a credit investor’s focus on downside protection. This hands-on business development role is responsible for originating and sourcing new opportunities, developing institutional relationships, identifying and qualifying prospective investors, and working with the investment team to communicate the strategy and advance qualified prospects through diligence. Over time, the role will support the broader $55 billion International Value Group platform and use relationships across alternatives and fixed income to support growth across GSS, International Value, International Explorer and future platform expansion capabilities. The salary range is $150,000–$200,000. Placement within the range depends on geographic location, relevant experience and skills. Base salary is one component of total compensation; associates may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance. Extensive travel is required. FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses are required.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of sales and capital formation experience, with a demonstrated record of raising assets.
  • Experience raising assets for hedge funds or other alternative strategies; credit-oriented strategy experience is particularly relevant.
  • Demonstrated track record of originating new investor relationships and raising assets, ideally for newer funds or strategies.
  • Established network among institutional alternatives, credit and hedge fund investors.
  • Strong new-business orientation, with demonstrated success prospecting, originating relationships and building a pipeline from the ground up.
  • Ability to credibly communicate and commercialize complex investment strategies and engage in substantive conversations with sophisticated investors.
  • Strong judgment regarding investor fit, relationship development and when to engage investment professionals and other senior resources.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, relationship-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with investment professionals, senior business leaders and distribution colleagues across the firm.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and actively manage a pipeline of investors across alternatives, credit and hedge funds, including family offices, multi-family offices, funds of funds, endowments and foundations, pensions, consultants and other specialist alternatives allocators.
  • Originate new relationships beyond existing International Value Group networks through targeted outreach, industry relationships, conferences, capital introduction networks and other business development channels.
  • Use an existing network within the credit and alternatives community to generate introductions and prospective investor meetings.
  • Execute a disciplined sales plan, prioritize actionable prospects and move qualified opportunities through the sales process.
  • Work with the portfolio manager and Director to develop a clear and compelling articulation of the GSS investment philosophy, process, portfolio construction, performance expectations and differentiation.
  • Lead initial investor conversations and coordinate deeper investment diligence with the investment team as opportunities progress.
  • Develop an understanding of prospective investors’ portfolios, objectives and decision-making processes to assess fit and prioritize opportunities.
  • Gather and synthesize market feedback about investor needs, recurring diligence questions and potential barriers to adoption while preserving the integrity of the investment approach.
  • Partner with broader Artisan distribution resources to identify relationships and create relevant introductions.
  • Represent GSS and, where appropriate, the broader International Value Group platform at alternatives conferences, investor events, roadshows and other industry forums.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline management, documenting outreach, investor feedback, next steps and progression through the sales process.

Benefits

  • Associates may be eligible for a discretionary bonus determined based on firm and individual performance.
