About The Position

The Director of Sales and Marketing is a visionary leader responsible for driving direct sales, booking profitable business, and fostering excellent communication and leadership within the sales team. This role requires a vibrant, creative, and passionate individual dedicated to business development and setting the hotel up for success. The Director is expected to be cool under pressure, a problem-solver, and a proud representative of Virgin Hotels, leveraging industry knowledge and relationships to understand market fluctuations and prioritize hotel profitability. Requirements

  • Current, legal and unrestricted ability to work in the United States.
  • Previous experience as a Director of Sales and Marketing with a luxury, lifestyle hotel brand.
  • Minimum 5 years of previous hotel sales experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate in English with clients, guests, vendors, teammates/management, in person, in writing, and on the telephone.
  • Proficient computer knowledge.
  • Great team player with the ability to create excellent working relationships across the group.
  • Collaborative approach with all departments, particularly food & beverage and the sales & marketing and events team.
  • Ability to break down barriers and resolve potential conflicts swiftly and effortlessly.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to all levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Sales and Catering team, focusing on motivation, education, and ensuring revenue goals are met through weekly educational sessions and performance measurement.
  • Oversee the booking of profitable business, including guest rooms, event space, and the appropriate mix of business for the hotel.
  • Organize reporting in conjunction with the Director of Revenue Management, including forecasts, sales & marketing plans, budgets, and STAR report analysis. Lead team meetings, Marketing Committee meetings, and co-facilitate REVMAX meetings.
  • Prepare and continuously review quarterly sales plans by segment, including target accounts, ensuring strategies are met or developing creative solutions to increase occupancy and/or rate.
  • Collaborate with Catering on menu pricing, food and beverage minimums, and event facility standards, encouraging upselling and driving incremental occupancy/rates.
  • Conduct ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends, analyze market and sales trends, and coordinate activities to increase revenue and market share.
  • Encourage and oversee the creation of client events, prospecting blitzes, and targeted marketing campaigns. Attend trade shows and major market events to promote new business and increase sales and marketing opportunities.
  • Coordinate and encourage cross-selling to other Virgin Hotels and Virgin brands.
  • Lead local marketing efforts to highlight hotel services and amenities, adhering to Virgin Hotels' tone of voice and style standards. Identify and resolve operational challenges impacting marketing and sales performance.
  • Develop the hotel's and brand's awareness and reputation in the local community by working with key business leaders and community representatives.
  • Manage the team's workflow through the Delphi system and communicate with the Director of Revenue Management and General Manager to ensure appropriate pricing and adjust selling strategies.
