About The Position

Rhoads Industries is seeking a Director of Safety to join their dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The Director of Safety is responsible for directing and providing health and safety program oversight for the company. This role oversees the development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, audits functions for health and safety procedure implementation, ensures compliance with corporate, OSHA, Coast Guard, and client safety requirements, and conducts root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. The Director of Safety monitors and documents the effectiveness of safety control measures used throughout the company and directs Rhoads staff and subcontractors in the implementation of Rhoads’ Health and Safety Program.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 years in a safety role with 5+ years in a supervisory or management role.
Extensive knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards across all standards; ability to differentiate between applicable standards (1910, 1915, 1926, EM 285-1-1, etc.).
OSHA 30 certification within the last five (5) years.
Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
40-hour HAZWOPER certificate and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to oversee and lead safety training initiatives.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Excellent time management and organizational skills; detail oriented and efficient.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a rapidly growing organization; experience managing personnel.
Ability to communicate requirements in an industrial environment, and to give effective direction by using written and/or verbal skills where appropriate.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide health and safety leadership and direction to Division, Department and Project Managers.
Serve as the health and safety subject matter expert with clients, regulators, and Rhoads staff working on projects or designing proposal responses.
Manage health and safety resources and related departmental budgets.
Manage corporate health and safety staff.
When necessary, plan, request, and assist in the hiring of new personnel.
Serve as the primary contact on health and safety issues.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with Rhoads’ customers, Site Health and Safety Managers, and subcontractors.
Create, manage, and review site-specific safety plans (SSSP), Job Hazard Analysis, and Activity Hazard Analysis.
Appraise and implement new safety regulations as they relate to Rhoads’ operations.
Ensure that project personnel are adequately trained in emergency response plan procedures.
Work as the internal incident manager, ensuring that safety emergencies and injuries are properly handled.
Oversee, manage, and ensure safety orientation for all new Rhoads personnel and visitors as applicable.
Review safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates; organize and conduct safety training as necessary.
Assist in the preparation of new work proposals as solicitations relate to corporate health and safety objectives.
Review all contract documents related to ongoing or proposed work for safety-related issues.
Review subcontractor safety programs; ensure that subcontractor programs are compliant with corporate, OSHA, client, or Coast Guard Safety regulations.
Participate in meetings with field personnel, such as pre-award and pre-construction conferences.
Conduct safety audits, including a brief summary report noting any deviations from the HASP and corrective actions that may be necessary to promote the health and safety of workers and the public.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
