Director of Product

Hivemind Capital Partners•New York, NY

About The Position

Lightyear is hiring its founding product lead to define and build its operating system for enterprise AI consumption. The product measures, governs, and optimizes organizational spending on tokens, models, and agents. Its modular offering ranges from spend visibility and attribution to enterprise deployments that optimize model routing and budgets in real time. This is a 0-to-1 role responsible for deciding what to build, in what order, and for whom; defining the MVP; running design partnerships; developing token-spend attribution and outcome-measurement methodologies; supporting technical sales; and creating the product function from scratch. The role will hire and lead product and design as the company grows. The Director will own the product roadmap and product-market-fit definition across Lightyear Pro and Enterprise. Pro uses agents and SDKs to export metadata-only telemetry with minimal admin credentials, while customers retain their existing LLM-provider subscriptions. Enterprise runs a gateway and console in the customer's cloud, enforcing model and budget rules in the request path. The role will lead measurement that links usage and cost to work outcomes, define expense-management workflows and data products, and treat privacy, security, deployment, and compliance as product requirements. The role also leads commercial product work: recruiting design partners, supporting sales and enterprise reviews, defining pricing and packaging, partnering with sales/BD and the Hivemind network, deploying Lightyear within Hivemind Digital Group as customer zero, and reporting product and commercial progress to the CEO and group leadership. The position establishes product discovery, specification, and release processes with engineering.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of product-management experience.
  • At least one end-to-end 0-to-1 product ownership experience at a developer-infrastructure, FinOps or spend-management, observability, or fintech company.
  • Experience shipping products in the request path or products that ingest telemetry, such as API gateways or proxies, LLM gateways, observability/APM, cloud cost management, or LLM-ops tooling.
  • Experience defining or shipping outcome or productivity metrics for engineering or knowledge work, or the rigor to do so with a data lead.
  • Deep fluency in AI infrastructure economics, including provider pricing and plan structures, token metering, model routing, inference costs, and differences in what individual, team, and enterprise plans expose.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to build trust with engineers, including reading code, understanding SDK and agent instrumentation such as OpenTelemetry-style instrumentation, credential and authentication models, and cloud deployment patterns such as single-tenant and VPC.
  • Strong commercial instincts and experience selling to or building for FinOps, platform engineering, and finance buyers; comfort with enterprise security and procurement reviews.
  • Experience running customer research, design-partner programs, and 0-to-1 commercial motions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain a complex technical product to non-technical buyers.
  • Founder mentality: intrinsic motivation, comfort with ambiguity, hands-on involvement in specifications and demos, and ambition to grow into broader product leadership as the team scales.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in spend management, expense workflows, or FinOps, such as at a corporate-card, cloud-cost, or SaaS-management company, or in engineering-intelligence and developer-productivity products.
  • Working knowledge of data products, benchmarks, or indices, and how usage data becomes a financial product.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product roadmap and define product-market fit from MVP through the Pro-to-Enterprise ladder.
  • Set the sequence for product modules, including spend visibility and attribution; token-credit requests and approvals; usage governance and compliance; model optimization, routing, and procurement; outcome and productivity measurement; and data and indices.
  • Define Lightyear Pro, including agents and SDKs that export metadata-only telemetry, minimal admin credentials, and tracking of usage and cost by developer, model, team, and project.
  • Define Lightyear Enterprise with engineering, including a single-tenant gateway and console in the customer's cloud, request-path enforcement of model and budget rules, and routing tasks to models based on measured return on cost.
  • Own outcome and productivity measurement, joining token spend to work produced through integrations such as GitHub, Jira, and Linear.
  • Develop a rigorous methodology for attributing and normalizing token spend across providers and plan types, and connecting it to work outcomes so stakeholders can trust spend-productivity measures.
  • Own the token expense-management workflow for Lightyear Pro, including requests, approvals, and suggested allocations.
  • Define how product telemetry produces the data and index layer, and determine what is published free, licensed, or reserved for Hivemind Capital's financial products.
  • Set privacy and security requirements, including metadata-only ingestion, data residency, single-tenant deployment, and a path to enterprise compliance such as SOC 2 and AI-use policy enforcement.
  • Recruit and operate a design-partner program with five to ten organizations running agents at scale, turning customer conversations into prioritized demand and a pilot-to-paid path.
  • Lead the technical and domain aspects of sales conversations with FinOps, platform, finance, engineering, CTO, and Head of AI stakeholders; provide demos, scope integrations, support security and procurement reviews, and translate customer needs into product requirements.
  • Develop pricing and packaging across the product ladder, including a free or near-free Pro subscription, usage-based Enterprise pricing, and a graduation path between them.
  • Partner with sales/BD and the Hivemind network on customer relationships, owning the technical close.
  • Deploy Lightyear on Hivemind Digital Group's own agent spend as customer zero and apply findings to product development and investment diligence.
  • Prepare product and commercial reporting for the CEO and group leadership, including product-market-fit signals, design-partner status, pipeline, and go/no-go evidence.
  • Hire and lead the founding product and design team, and establish product discovery, specification, and release processes with engineering.

  • Competitive base compensation.
  • Generous incentive-based compensation, such as discretionary bonuses or stock options.
